Why is it dangerous when I bump myself?

Introduction

Having a disease like hemophilia can be a little scary. But by finding out as much as you can about it, you can feel more in control of your life and the disease.

Having hemophilia doesn't stop you from being able to do things like play with your friends or do sports. You do have to be careful though. Once you know what to do and what not to do, living with hemophilia will become easier.

What's different about the blood of someone who has hemophilia?

People with hemophilia simply have blood that doesn't clot as well as it does in other people. If you have hemophilia you can do everything other people do. But you do have to be more careful to avoid cuts and falls.

Who has hemophilia?

Lots of people all over the world have hemophilia. There are more than 15,000 people with hemophilia in the United States alone.

Because of the way it is passed on, it is almost always boys who have hemophilia-you will hardly ever meet girls who have hemophilia. The reason for this has a lot to do with the way hemophilia develops. It is a hereditary disease, which means that people with hemophilia are born with it and that you can't catch it from another person like a cold.
